Marlborough is Paradise 11th March
Robin and I woke after a welcome uninterrupted night’s sleep to the sound of Fizz boats being launched one after another while the locals took advantage of a beautiful day and the last day of the weekend. We prepped the boat for the next leg filling the water tanks and putting the boat back in order on the inside after one hell of a crossing.
Jo arrived after a beautiful flight from Hamilton bringing the sunshine with her. Jo will spend a fortnight in Marlborough with us which will ensure we get the kayaks wet and us (maybe wetsuits needed for swimming down here)? Water temperature was19 degrees today. We did a ‘hell shop’ at the supermarket together and headed out of Port for Marlborough in nothing short of perfect conditions, what a difference a day makes!
We cruised up to French Pass at 15 knots passing many ‘work ups’ on the way (fish chasing bait fish and birds chasing bait fish from above), as we neared French Pass we decided to stop and fish for tea. I pulled my brand new light rod and reel and my refurbished rod, before I new it Jo had grabbed the new rod and it was on the bottom for a nano second and she was hauling up two large Blue Cod for Robin and I to remove from the hooks and get into the tank. While we were busy sorted them out she grabbed my already baited line and promptly did the same! Sadly I never got to fish today as 6 Cod later that was our fishing done for the day. Writing about it has taken longer than catching the fish!
We cruised up to Catherine Cove where we anchored up and enjoyed some very fresh Blue Cod with a fresh salad for tea. This place is truly Paradise, we are so lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the World, I do hope we appreciate and treasure this for future generations to enjoy.
